Universal Voicemail Commands

December 16, 2008 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

At work, I have to press “76″ to delete a voiemail.

At home, I press “3″.

On my cell, I press “7″.

This is stupid.  I hereby propose a universal voicemail system.

“1″ – listen to new messages
“2″ – return call
“3″ – delete
“4″ – rewind 5 seconds
“5″ – pause
“6″ – fast forward 5 seconds
“7″ – start message over
“8″  – skip to end
“9″ – keep
“0″ – return via voicemail

See, how hard is that?  Now act, voicemail keepers!

Sigh… here comes winter.

Happy Halloween

Did Emily get her inner Martha Stewart on by making dog costumes again this year?

You betcha. (Note the political theme!)

Movie Review – Sex and the City

October 4, 2008 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

I saw the Sex and the City movie this week.  I have several thoughts on this.  If you are the one other person who hasn’t seen the movie, don’t read on.

1.    I feel like Carrie is such a strong woman – except when she’s around Big.  The guy stands her up at the altar, she rightly beats him down with flowers, and then in the end… she apologizes for wanting a big wedding and takes him back.  And guess what – they end up getting married the way he wanted in the first place.  What’s the next chapter – Carrie barefoot in the kitchen making pies?  I wish Carrie was a strong person in love too, not just work and life.

2.    Charlotte just accidentally getting pregnant.  GREAT.  She was our infertility poster child, and then she goes and gets some divine intervention and now she’s pregnant.  Do you know how many times I thought about the episode where she is mourning on the couch, but then puts on a great outfit and goes to a baby shower after her miscarriage?  How I try to channel that kind of strength?  And now people are going to tell me (and all of my infertile brethren) that we should just relax and stop trying and it’ll happen.  Hint: that is as likely to happen as winning the lottery.  Maybe you should just stop going to work and play the lottery.  And relax.   I liked unpregnant Charlotte better.

3.    Miranda – why was everyone pressuring her to get back with Steve?  Sure, she cut him off from sex and was a bad wife.  She had some things that needed to be worked on.  But he slept with another woman.  Unforgivable!  I wouldn’t have taken him back.

4.    Samantha – Eh, nothing much angered me here.  I’m a monogamist, so of course I wasn’t for her leaving Smith because she was horny.  Being 90, alone, and still horny isn’t going to be fun.  But whatever.  It’s her funeral I guess.

I give it 3 ears of corn.  I’d watch it again with my girlfriends, but I’d still get all fired up again about points one and two.

Bedroom Makeover

September 27, 2008 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

Since we’ve decided to stay in our house for a bit, I decided to redo our bedroom.

Here’s the bedroom before. Those stripes were on the wall when we moved in.

And behind the bed after I painted:

I could not find curtains I liked anywhere… so I bought a sheet set from overstock.com and used the fabric to make curtains and throw pillows. (Throw pillows not yet pictured because they’re not sewed yet)

I also used existing curtain rods and bought some curtain tiebacks, and spray painted them all silver so they matched. Brilliant!

Guess where I live? That’s right, just south of Downtown.

Hurricane Remnants

September 13, 2008 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

Are not my friends.  Our roof leaked, but our basement is thus far, thankfully, dry.

In the 5 minutes I was out of bed this morning, I found the drywall wet and leaking in the living room. Fearing that trend would continue if I remained awake and alert, I turned around and went right back to bed.  The dogs agreed.

Emily does Minnesota

September 4, 2008 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

We went to Minneapolis last weekend for the NIU/Minnesota game.

Before the trip, I was dreading Minneapolis.  I’m a Chicago girl, what can Minneapolis offer?

What Minneapolis Offers:

  1. Clean streets (although now they’re littered with hippie protesters, tear gas, and rubber bullets)
  2. Nice people.  Seriously nice people.
  3. Great cab drivers
  4. Rolling green hills
  5. Awesome restaurants.  I loved the News Room and Brit’s Pub

I am very eager to go back to Minneapolis.  I’m a converted Minneaplisaholic!
