Universal Voicemail Commands

By emiscraftylikeiceiscold

At work, I have to press “76″ to delete a voiemail.

At home, I press “3″.

On my cell, I press “7″.

This is stupid.  I hereby propose a universal voicemail system.

“1″ – listen to new messages
“2″ – return call
“3″ – delete
“4″ – rewind 5 seconds
“5″ – pause
“6″ – fast forward 5 seconds
“7″ – start message over
“8″  – skip to end
“9″ – keep
“0″ – return via voicemail

See, how hard is that?  Now act, voicemail keepers!

ISO/IEC 13714 is a start, but doesn’t specify what you want. Don’t forget that everyone has to add their own proprietary “features” that make a universal system impossible.

Proprietary features would occupy double digit codes. For instance, “76″ on my voicemail could be the far less frequently used “send a message to a group” rather than the daily used “delete”.
