Miss me?

July 25, 2009 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

A conversation during a visit to my favorite shop this weekend reminded me that I haven’t blogged in ages.  So, here’s my quickie update:

1.  We fostered a great dog named Libby

She was adopted by a sweet German lady who asked if Libby would like taking her pills in liver sausage.  Libby is finally living the life she deserved.

2.  It was my birthday.

My front yard was vandalized:

And my husband got me a Steelers Super Bowl ring replica.  It was a good day.

3.  I went to Vegas with my hubby and two of the best friends in the entire world.  We laughed until we cried many times.

Vegas baby!

4.  Fertilitysocks.org is keeping me really busy.  Who know there were so many infertile people out there?

5.  I saw Billy Joel and Elton John at Wrigley.  (Time number 3 seeing them together).  Wonderful as always.  And Brenda and Eddie are still the popular steady.

So that’s my last couple months.  Consider yourself caught up!

FertilitySocks

April 11, 2009 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

So if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you know that I’ve launched FertilitySocks.  Being the shameless promoter that I am, here it is on my blog too!

So here’s the story:  I’ve been going thought infertility treatments for two years.  They suck.  When I was getting ready for a procedure, my nurse reccomened I wear fun socks to start conversation.  I did, and it was a hit.

Now I’m asking people (YOU!) to donate socks to give to someone who is suffering.  Infertility is terribly painful, physically and mentally.  To an infertility patient, socks from a stranger means that someone recognizes your pain, and wants you to smile.

You can donate through my site, www.fertilitysocks.org.

Thanks! :)

Bailey, foster dog

March 14, 2009 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

We’re fostering the greatest dog – Mr. Bailey

He’s a wonderful dog – loves people, food, and naps.

This look says, “Hey you. Human. Bring me home. I’ll love you – promise.”

Seriously?

March 4, 2009 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

I use a medication that has to be injected.  The pharmacy asked me, “do you need a new sharps container?”  (Where one puts her used needles).  I said yes.  I got it today and it came with a label.

“Use as Directed”

OH! Use as as DIRECTED! Because I was thinking about storing trail mix in it. But apparently I shouldn’t do that because of the warning label.

Seriously. If you trust me to inject myself with medicine, trust me to know what to do with the sharps container.

But a Snuggie is just a robe worn backwards!

How do we say “I love you” on Valentines day in our house?  With MLB Licensed fleece, of course!

I found this free pattern on the internets, ordered some Cubs fleece from Joann.com, and went to town.  The sewing took about 20 minutes, and look at how happy he is, eating his eggs and still cozy and warm!

Haven’t forgotten…

A year ago was a very scary day.  The good news is, I have been able to return to work, and there is a return to normalcy.  But I still get spooked out every time I walk by Cole Hall.  And when I look out my window, sometimes I see that girl running down the street.  I wish, in the aftermath, we focused more on mental health care and why it failed him.  I’m just glad the one year anniversary is over.

Exceptionally overdue Christmas Craftiness

January 25, 2009 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

I had a teensy bit of minor surgery on Friday, so I’m catching up on long over blog posts… for instance, what I crafted for Christmas… which was last month. Whatever, moving on!

Christmas theme this year: Candy. I bought clear, empty balls from Michaels, and filled them with candy from the dollar store.

We also glued those red/white swirly mints on silver ribbon and wrapped it around the tree.

…and then I failed to take a picture of the tree. But just know that it looked really nice, lots of colors.

For my co-workers, I made them cards with hot chocolate inside. (Which I got from Big Lots for $1/box.)

This was by far my favorite card. I stamped it on white card stock, and colored it with pastels.

So, um, Merry Christmas?

My craft room

January 17, 2009 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

We’ve decided to mirgrate my craft room downstairs to the basement – I kinda outgrew the 1/2 of the guest bedroom I’d been allotted.

I’m just painting now, but here’s the conglomeration of things I’d like to get/have already purchased for my room

I am sad to announce the passing…

…of our beloved Beta fish Fukudome. (4/08 – 1/09). He always greeted us with a wiggle of his tail. Not a fighter, more of a lover. He will be missed.

Dark Knight, a review. Subtitle: Yes, I finally saw it.

December 16, 2008 by emiscraftylikeiceiscold

So I finally saw the Dark Knight.  And now I will drone on and on about how Heath Ledger should win an Oscar.

Ok, no, not really.  I mean, he was good, but I couldn’t concentrate because he kept licking his lips.  I wanted to say to the man, “Stop at Walgreens and get some friggin Chapstick!  There’s one two blocks down from where you’re putting those barrels of goo!”

The scenes I enjoyed most were those filmed on Lower Wacker.  (Yes, that’s a real street, and yes, there is an Upper Wacker too.)  The way Batman was weaving between all those cars reminded me of the way my cab driver did it too just two days ago.  I was equally scared both times.

Regarding Batman’s performance, my friend Pete summed it up best: “Batman’s voice annoyed me.  We get it, you’re straight!”  I suggest maybe the Joker could pick up an inhaler for Batman while he’s at Walgreens.

I enjoyed that the plot moved really fast, and I loved pointing out Chicago landmarks.  That being said, it was not an orgasm endusing assult to the senses as some had suggested.

I give it three ears of corn.
